In what ways does your product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Here is a link of a magazine of the same genre as my music magazine http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/41285000/jpg/_41285082_smash_hits_body.jpg
This is my final masthead for my music magazine. I wanted the masthead to grab the attention of the reader so chose a one word masthead which catches attention of the readers and also suits the genre of the magazine. I chose to use an exclamation mark in my title making it fun so it suited the genre of my music magazine. This follows the conventions of music magazines the music magazine on the left which also has an exclamation mark after the title making the title fun. I chose to use the colour pink for my masthead as it is bright and stands out on the front cover. It also matches with the image that is on my front cover. I had originally used a purple for my masthead however when i was creating my music magazine i found it made the masthead blend in with the image on the front page and did not stand out as well as when i made the masthead purple. I then changed this to the colour it is now. I chose to place my masthead in the top left hand corner of the front cover. This is because it follows the conventions of pop magazine which i have researched but was also appropriate as it worked well with the image on my front cover. As you can see from the image on the right my music magazine's masthead is similar to existing magazine's mastheads. My masthead follows the typical conventions of this pop magazine as it is in a bubble writing front. This attracts young readers as it makes the magazine look fun which will make them want to read it. I also chose to use a drop shadow on my masthead. I done this as i felt it made the magazine look more professional. It also made my masthead stand out against the background better.
Within my images mise-en-scene is very important. When choosing my models costume i decided that a colourful body warmer would suit the genre of my magazine best. This is because it makes the model look fun and girly which is representative of the genre of my magazine. I also chose to have the colours in the models outfit, blue and pink , the main colours of the text on the front page. To make the house style consistent through out the magazine and images. I also chose to have the models hair down instead of tied up. I felt this made the model look more girly which suited the genre of my magazine. I took the photo of my model against a plain background. This is because it made the image look more professional and it also made the image easier to edited when i edited the image. I also chose to have the light coming from the the front of the picture. I done this as it meant the light fell on the models face giving the image a warm look. I chose to have the model eating a lolly for this image as i felt it made the model seem approachable and fun which is what people look for in magazines. I also felt it made the model easy to relate to as she looks friendly and happy which the audience will look for within the magazine.
I chose the model on my double page spread to have quite a casual look about her. The model is wearing a casual top and some jeans. I chose her to be dressed in this way as i felt it makes it easier for the readers to relate to her as they will dress in a similar way. This follows the conventions of music magazines i have researched as models in pop magazines wear casual clothes which the reader can relate to. I also chose the model to not wear a lot of make up however still wear pink lipstick making her still look girly. This model is also smiling making her seem fun and approachable to the reader. This follows the conventions of existing music magazines i have researched as most models are smiling in the images. I also chose the lighting to be coming from above in this image as it also allows the light to fall on the models face. I also chose to have this image against a plain background making the image look more professional and it also makes the image easier to edit.
Choosing the font type for my magazine was very important. I needed my font to match the style and genre of the magazine i was creating. I chose this font because when researching pop magazines i found most are in bubble writing. I used bubble writing as i felt it made my magazine look fun and exciting. I chose to make my font blue and pink depending on if it was a headline or not. I chose to use these colours as it was the colours that were on the main image on the front cover of the magazine. I also felt it gave the magazine a girly feel to it. I also used a drop shadow on my text as i felt it made the headlines stand out better and it made the magazine look more professional.
The written content on my double page spread takes up on half of the page. I chose to do this so i could have the other half with a large image on. Within my written content i have used large quotations which are in a different colour to make them stand out on the page. I done this to attract the reader to the article. I also chose my headline to overlap on to the image.
My contents page for the pop magazine is an important page within the magazine. I chose to have the written content across three sections but not have too much written that the reader would not want to read it. I done this as my magazine appeals to young readers who may not want to read a lot of info on the contents page. I also chose to use words i felt were appropriate for young readers. However after my teacher looked at my magazine i realised the wording i have used was too complex for young readers and would not appeal to them so i changed it to suit the audience. When researching pop magazine i found that all pop magazine included images on the contents pages. I used three images on the contents page of my magazine. For my title of the page i used the bubble writing i used on the front page to continue the house style and to make my contents page also look fun and appeal to the young audience. I also used an exclamation mark on this title as i felt it made the page look fun.
